On Tuesday 9th March two teams participated in the Year 5 & 6 Rippa Rugby tournament at Fraser Park that was organised by the Wellington Rugby Football Union.Excellent passing and catching skills as well as non stop support of the ball carrier were displayed by both teams. Some passing movements involved many hands and covered the entire length of the field. Although only one game was won by each team they lost others by only one try. All team members had their moments whether running with the ball or defending. They were also well behaved, supportive of each other and represented the school with pride. According to Willie special mention must be made of Aroha, Moana, Hikurangi, Christopher and John who stood out on both attack and defense. John was commended for his positive leadership and the help he gave to team members. Jessie is to be congratulated for the progress she made through the tournament. Nuku showed good sportsmanship.Mr. Koia would like to make special mention of Anthony who showed an amazing side step and dodging skills. Thomas also showed great skill at beating defenders using his spinning technique. Blake was fast, elusive and once he mastered it a strong defender. Ashley found her “fast legs” and was hard to catch. Hannah and Rebecca also gained greater confidence to use their speed as the tournament progressed. Jake was a rock on defence and Kane became a wall in defence later on.Thank you to Willie for coaching a team Lee and Paula for assisting at the tournament. A big thank you to everyone for providing transport. Thank you also to Mr Koia for coordinating the teams and coaching one team, Latest news
