School Prospectus
Wainuiomata Primary School is a state school, catering for Years 1 to 6, and is graded as Decile 4. Our 2007 roll averaged about 380 children, which makes it the largest contributing primary school in Wainuiomata. Approximately 60% are European, 30% Maori and 10% Pacific Nations and Asian.
Our teaching staff have a range of experience, from one to over 25 years. The school is divided into four areas or syndicates: Junior 1 Syndicate – Year 1 (3 or 4 classes) Junior 2 Syndicate – Years 1 to 2 (3 classes) Middle Syndicate – Years 3 and 4 (5 classes) Senior Syndicate – Years 5 and 6 (4 classes). In the junior school we like to keep our class sizes in the “low 20s”, and in the middle and senior school we aim for the “mid to high 20s”. As children become more independent, larger class sizes still allow for quality learning and teaching. Our Mission Statement Preparing our children, together, for life. To support our vision, we do our very best to:E whakarite ngātahi ana i ā tātou tamariki mō tō rātou oranga. · identify children’s individual needs and provide varied programmes to meet those needs and support success · honour our obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi by recognising the unique position of Māori · promote increased participation and success of Māori through the advancement of Māori education initiatives · encourage a strong sense of discipline in each child and a desire to learn · provide a safe, secure and harmonious environment · recognise and utilise staff strengths · promote inclusive, non-sexist, culturally sensitive attitudes and practices.
