Mutukaroa

Frances McCarthy is the Mutukaroa Coodinator in 2020.

Mutukaroa is a program which is focussed on building home - school learning partnerships.

When your child is 5, 5 1/2, 6 and 7 they are assessed to check their progress.

The information is shared with you so that you can understand, ask questions and decide what the next steps are for supporting your child at home with their learning.

The coordinators job is to support you by explaining the data, answering your questions and providing resources to support you at home. The coordinator is also available to talk at any time during your child's schooling if you have any queries about your child's learning.

This web site is designed to support you in accessing resources and to support you with additional information.

Talk Talk Talk

Talking to and with your child is a wonderful way to build their oral language and encourage them to think about things in different ways.

Talking about everyday events, reading stories, talking about stories, making up stories, asking questions, sharing stories about you when you were little, singing nursery rhymes, play make believe with your child. 'I wonder what would happen if...' is great for encouraging creative thinking.

When out and about discuss road signs, types of food at the supermarket, what you can see, hear, smell.

Use lots of descriptive language describing what things look like, feel like, size, position.

Reading to your child every day is a wonderful way to share and talk about books and extend your child's vocabulary.
